Janus
Janus is an drama television show screened in 1994 and 1995 to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Two series are made, with a total of 26 events.
Janus was a series from the earlier abctv crime series Phoenix.
Loosely based on the real story of Melbourne's Pettingill family and also the Walsh Street police shootings, Janus follows the bitterly-fought prosecutions of a notorious criminal family, the Hennesseys, from the viewpoints of their family, the police and, specifically, the attorneys, prosecutors, barristers and judges involved in all elements of the narrative.
Four associates of those infamous Hennessey clan are acquitted of the shooting two young policemen in a bank heist, After the show begins. Since brothers Mal and Steve, together with friend Ken Hardy and brother in law Darren Mack, walk free the city of Melbourne is shocked.
Even the prosecutors, judges, magistrates and police -- lots of modelled heavily on figures that were legal -- are determined to put the Hennessey members when they could. But legal loopholes corruption, flaws, and funds combine to make the search far from straightforward the group to jail.
