One Foot in the Grave is a British sitcom series produced by the BBC. Victor Meldrew and his long-suffering wife, Margaret, are the protagonists of the series. Meldrew's battle against the troubles he creates is a recurring theme in the shows. Victor is forced into early retirement while living in a normal English suburban household. The sitcom revolves around his many attempts to keep himself occupied while encountering various mishaps and misunderstandings. Although various hints suggest that the series was set in Hampshire — likely Winchester-the majority of the series was shot on location in Walkford, near New Milton in Hampshire. Despite its typical production, the series incorporates aspects of black comedy and surrealism to replace its domestic sitcom setting.
