Architecture of Infinity
How can constructions that enclose specified, rigid areas of space elicit feelings of transcendence? How are chapels able to transform into contemplative spaces? How are walls able to provide unrestricted liberty? Motivated by vivid childhood memories, filmmaker Christoph Schaub travels to astonishing cathedrals, both old and futuristic, and encounters pieces of art that lead him to the heavens and all the way to the bottom of the ocean. With the assistance of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer, he attempts to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences through the use of seemingly abstract concepts such as light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape. The extraordinary cinematography elevates this introspective journey to a multisensory experience.
