Having lost his horse Pat Brennan hitches a ride using a stagecoach carrying Willard newly-weds and Doretta Mims. At the next station the coach and its passengers fall in to the hands of a trio of outlaws headed by a person named Usher. When Usher learns that Doretta could be a rich copper mine owner's daughter, he makes the decision to keep her for ransom. Tension builds over the next 24 hours as an intimate attachment develops between Doretta and Brennan and as Usher anticipates a response.
