Dating Amber

With a heartbreaking, honest, and humorous look at the highs and lows of adolescence, Dating Amber explores how the only way to fit in is to stop being yourself, even if it means going against your very nature. Eddie and Amber (both17) are in the closet regarding their sexuality when the story takes place in Ireland during the mid-90s. They decide to stage a relationship in order to deter everyone from wondering. Eddie aspires to join the military like his father, while Amber longs to live in the liberal capital of London, where she has a number of friends. As their supposedly perfect arrangement begins to unravel, Eddie is forced to retreat even more into denial, while Amber realizes that her best friend faces a terrible future if she does not step in. Beards is a love letter to all the kids who grew up in small towns and who felt the need to get away in order to be who they truly were.
