If the current crop of leaders, from Rich Froning and Annie Thorisdottir to Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey, can see further than their predecessors, it's only because they're building upon the foundation laid by those who came before them. Fraser's announcement that he would end his competitive career after the 2020 season made way for a new crop of rivals. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Games in 2021, a total of 15 competitions were held, involving both first-time participants and seasoned veterans. Toomey was as steady and composed as a clock in a thunderstorm, breaking records and solidifying her status as the unstoppable athlete of all time at the CrossFit Games. We saw some of the sport's all-time greats make a triumphant return at the 2021 Games, and we also saw the emergence of the new breed of athletes who will continue to bear the banner of the Fittest on Earth in the years to come.
