Hearts of the West
Lewis Tater, a naive Iowa farm lad, aspires to be a famous Western novelist like Zane Grey, his hero. He goes home to respond to an ad for on-campus lessons for a writing correspondence course, only to learn that the institution is nothing more than a row of postboxes at a remote Nevada train depot. Lewis comes across "genuine" cowboys—cowboy actors filming a movie in the desert while on the run from the con guys responsible. In Depression-era Hollywood, the would-be writer quickly finds himself performing in Westerns for the run-down Tumbleweed Productions studio.
