The film is set in 11th century China during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. The emperor indulges in delights that are personal, as the government sinks to corruption and war continues to rage at the boundaries of the Song Dynasty and neglects state affairs. The armies of the country of Western Xia are invading the Song Dynasty. Yang Zongbao is your last person standing in the Yang clan, a group group of generals who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the Song Dynasty. He dies in battle tragically when the Imperial Tutor Pang refuses to send reinforcements to aid him. Yang Zongbao's widowed wife Mu Guiying directs one widows of the Yang clan to battle to carry on the heritage of the husbands.
