Rei Kiriyama (Ryunosuke Kamiki) is a 17-year-old shogi (Japanese chess) player. When he was in middle school, he made his professional shogi debut. He lives alone in Tokyo because his parents and younger sister were killed in a car accident when he was a child. Rei Kiriyama meets three sisters who are his neighbors one day. Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto are the three sisters. This is his first time meeting someone outside of the shogi world in many years. Rei Kiriyama enjoys eating with the Kawamoto family. Rei Kiriyama's interactions with his neighbors allow him to grow as a shogi player and as a person as he pursues his shogi career.
