Mayerling
Austria's Emperor Franz Joseph I and Crown Prince Rudolf had disagreements over enacting progressive measures for their nation. Rudolf quickly develops the impression that he was an unfortunate individual born in a society that didn't understand the necessity for social transformation. The Prince of Wales, later known as King Edward VII of Britain, offers comedic relief. By having a mistress, Baroness Maria Vetsera, Rudolf escapes his loveless marriage to Princess Stéphanie. It is unknown what caused their tragic demise in Mayerling, the royal family's hunting lodge.
