Perfumed Nightmare
Tahimik describes the daily patterns of life in the community through voiceover narration. He is enthralled by the Voice of America broadcasts, especially those concerning the space program. He aspires to be a part of the developed world and establishes the Werner von Braun Fan Club. An American gets his chance when he arrives for an ill-fated international meeting. The American invites him to travel to Paris and work as a street vendor selling chewing gum balls. He meets acquaintances in Paris and on a trip to Germany, and learns that progress in the developed world comes at the expense of vital values. He stubbornly refuses to capitulate to the terms of progress, resigning from his post as head of the Werner von Braun fan club and maintaining that he will find his own way, against the backdrop of footage from a summit meeting in Paris.
