Shanghai Grand

In this lively, romantic crime drama set in Shanghai during WWII, there are plenty of gangsters. As he washes up on a beach near Shanghai, Taiwanese patriot Hsu Wen-story Chiang's begins. Ting Lik, a gentle beggar who is madly in love with Feng Ching-Ching, the daughter of a powerful mobster, takes him in. Ting Lik quickly rises through the ranks of the underground to become one of the city's most prominent gangsters. Hsu stays at his side the entire time, using his own power to exact vengeance on those who tried to kill him much earlier. Later in the film, the focus shifts to the exploits of Feng, who had a long-ago romance with Hsu while on the run in northern China. Back in the present, Hsu and Feng rekindle their romance after a chance encounter, but Hsu discovers that Feng's father is one of his adversaries and murders him. Feng, who is bereft, loses his mind. Ting discovers the truth and vows vengeance on Hsu.
