Space Battleship Yamato

Five years following the Gamilons began an invasion of Earth, the entire world has been contested by the aliens' bombs. The remnants of humankind have fled underground to escape the irradiated surface. One day, former pilot Susumu Kodai discovers a capsule sent from the planet Iscandar that tells of a system that could remove the radiation from the surface of the Earth. The Earth Defense Force re-builds the battleship Yamato using a form of propulsion system to create the 148,000 light year trip assured of rescuing the planet earth to Iscandar. Within a year, the radiation will drive the rest of humankind.
