The Andromeda Strain

When almost most the residents of Piedmont are dead after the return to Earth of some space satellite, the mind of the US Air Force's Project Scoop declares an emergency. A group of distinguished scientists led by Dr. Jeremy Stone scramble into a laboratory and try to first isolate the life form when determining the two individuals from Piedmont - an old alcoholic and a six-month-old baby - survived. The scientists study the alien life form oblivious that it presents a danger at the laboratory, which has a nuclear device built to prevent the flow of dangerous biological agents and has mutated. .
