Spooks: Code 9

Spooks: Code 9 is a counter-intelligence drama series that has been airing on BBC Three since the year 2008. The series was commissioned by Jane Tranter, who is the head of BBC Fiction. She wanted to create a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks that would offer a "more maverick, younger perspective" and attract viewers between the ages of 16 and 24. The series focuses on a fresh set of youthful recruits to the MI5 who "follow a different rule book." It was created by a small independent production company known as Kudos, and it was shot in and around the cities of Leeds and Bradford. On August10,2008, BBC Three aired the first two episodes of the show, and on August11,2008, those episodes were rebroadcast on the same channel. It was a contentious move to link the new project to the first season of Spooks. Actress Georgia Moffett said that the connection "somewhat misrepresents" the name of the show. as well as the producer Chris Fry stating "This is a brand-new show from the ground up. There are no characters or plotlines that overlap, and the most essential thing is that it takes place in an entirely different planet." After the first season of the show was deemed to be a moderate failure, executive producer Karen Wilson stated that several of the existing cast members had been "contracted for another year." She also detailed potential topics that "we'd want to tackle if we get a second series."
