The Vision of Escaflowne
Production company Sunrise Studios created and directed the 26-episode anime television series called The Vision of Escaflowne. April 2, 1996 was the launch date in Japan, and it aired its final episode on September 24, 1996. Both in Japan and on Sony's many international networks, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, the anime satellite channel Animax showed the series. Bandai Entertainment has licensed the series for Region 1 release. Hitomi, a high school student, is transported to the planet Gaea by the appearance of a kid named Van on the school track as he battles a dragon. Gaea is engulfed in a civil war as the Zaibach Empire makes an attempt to seize control of the continent. Van leads the fight against the Zaibach Empire with the help of his legendary mech, Escaflowne, piloted by Allen. Escaflowne is awakened and Zaibach's goals are thwarted by Hitomi's fortune-telling abilities. Manga adaptations of The Vision of Escaflowne and Hitomi—The Vision of Escaflowne were both developed and released during filming of the anime series, which was broadcast in 2012. Escaflowne—Memories, Energist's a single volume, was released in 1997 as a second shjo adaptation. Yumiko Tsukamoto, Hajime Yatate, and Shoji Kawamori wrote a series of six light novels based on the story. An adaptation, Escaflowne: The Movie, was released in 2000, but bears only a superficial connection to the original series. In addition to the show's DVDs and Blu-rays, there are five CDs available for purchase.
